Months behind on your books? Start here.
Being behind is common and it is fixable. What it is not is something to take into a filing deadline. At Par rebuilds the record from your statements, reconciles it, and hands you books you can file from.
A qualified accountant is accountable. The finance team you don't hire.
However far back you are, the books can be rebuilt — most catch-ups run one to three years and need bank and card statements, your last filed return, and payroll records. The date that matters is the next filing one: 15 March 2027 for partnerships and S corporations, 15 April 2027 for C corporations. An extension buys you filing time, not payment time.
What a catch-up actually involves.
How far back can At Par go?
As far back as the records exist. Most catch-ups run one to three years.
The work is bounded by evidence, not by ambition. Give At Par bank and credit-card statements for the period, your last filed return, payroll records and any loan statements, and the ledger can be rebuilt from source. Every figure is tied to the document behind it — that is what makes the result something you can file from rather than a plausible-looking spreadsheet.
What happens if you file on unreconciled books?
You file wrong, and you usually pay to fix it twice.
A return built on books that were never reconciled carries the errors straight onto the form — and then into an amended return later. The bigger trap is the extension: Form 7004 buys an automatic six months to file, but it does not extend the time to pay. Interest and penalties run on tax that was owed on the original date.

What about the 1099s I should have sent?
They run on vendor records, which is exactly what a catch-up rebuilds.
Form 1099-NEC is due to recipients and to the IRS on the same date — and for the 2026 forms that date is Monday 1 February 2027, because 31 January falls on a Sunday. There is no later electronic deadline the way there is for 1099-MISC. If you file ten or more information returns in aggregate you must file electronically.

Asked by United States businesses.
How far behind can you actually be before it is a problem? +
Behind is normal; unreconciled at a filing deadline is the problem. Most catch-ups run one to three years and are rebuilt from bank and card statements, your last filed return and payroll records.
Does an extension give me more time to pay? +
No. Form 7004 gives an automatic six months to file, but tax owed is still due on the original date, and interest and penalties run from there. That is the single most expensive misunderstanding in a late year.
Do you do audit? +
No. At Par keeps your books closed, reconciled and audit-ready, and does not provide audit or assurance services. A qualified accountant is accountable for the work.
Does At Par file my taxes or move my money? +
No to both. At Par prepares your return and the reconciled books behind it, and hands you a filing-ready package. You — or your CPA — file. At Par is not a licensed public accounting (CPA) firm and never moves your money.
What does it cost? +
Books start from $349 a month and Books plus Tax is $649 a month, with custom scopes for groups and multi-entity work. You are priced against the hire, not the software, and can start with a 30-day paid pilot.
